Idiom 45: Live wire

상황: 어떤 일에 정열을 가지고 왕성하게 활동하는 사람을 가리킬 쓰는 말입니다. 여러분들도 이런 사람이 되시기를 바랍니다. 저도 몰랐는데 구글에서 알아본 바에 의하면 2004년에 나온 서태지의 앨범제목이었다고 하네요.

live wire = a person who is very active, both mentally and physically = eager beaver = an alert and energetic person

People always want her at their parties because she is a live wire.

이 단어를 보면 생각나는 단어가 있어 그냥 여기에 올립니다. 상관은 없어 보이지만 wire가 들어가서... Go haywire라구 '고장나다, 흥분하다'라는 뜻입니다. The healthcare (or financial) system goes haywire.
go haywire = go out of control or start doing the wrong thing

Idiom 44: No time to lose

상황: 생활을 하다보면 bill을 내야하는데 어느덧 due date까지 와서 overdue의 위기에 처해 있을때가 있습니다. 미리 내도 되는데 꾸물거리다가... 내일이면 overdue라고 한다면 꾸물거려서는 안되겠지요. 어떤 일을 하는데 있어서 기한이 다되었는데 아직 일의 진행속도가 늦을 때에도 마찬가지이구요. 꾸무럭거리지 말라고 할 때 쓰는 표현입니다. 서두르라는 뜻이지요. 저번에 배웠던 step on it 기억나시죠... 같은 맥락의 표현입니다.

= Waste no time.
= Don´t be long about it.
= Make it snappy. 옴질거릴 시간이 없다.

Common errors 4: Assurance vs. Insurance

assurance: the technical term given for insurance against a certainty (e.g. death) where payment is guaranteed 보증
(If you give someone an assurance that something is true or will happen, it is definitely true or will definitely happen, in order to make them feel less worried.)

insurance: the technical term given for insurance against a risk (such as fire, burglary, illness) where payment is made only if the risk materialises. 보험

Idiom 43: Come up to scratch

상황: 어떤 일을 위해서 출발점에 서 있을 때 준비가 되어 있는 상태를 가리킬 때 쓰는 표현입니다.

come up to scratch 출발[개시]선에 나오다;과감하게 대적하다

They came up to the scratch.
= They were ready to start.
